I found black spots spreading across my bathroom ceiling, which turned out to be mold from poor ventilation. Removing it meant scrubbing with a bleach solution and repainting with mold-resistant paint, but I also had to fix the underlying moisture issue by installing an exhaust fan to prevent it from coming back.
